Ruin of the castle Oberbürg that was destroyed in a bombing raid on Nuremberg in August 1943.
The first mention of Oberburg Castle dates back to the 13th century, and it is said that the castle originated from a pond house built by the Imperial Ministerials. However, most likely the complex was created after the division of property in the early 15th century.
After some changes of owners, in 1542 Oberburg Castle became a free manor under Bonaventure of Furtenbach. The next owner, Jorg Rayger, had the building modified in the 16th century. The guests here were mainly emigrants from Austria. After the countess' death, the owners changed again.
During the war, the castle was destroyed in a raid and only the farmyard has been preserved. In the 1960s, most of the castle's ruins were removed.
