Water paradise in the middle of the Nuremberg city
Wöhrder See is an artificial lake that stretches in the middle of the city. Half of Nuremberg inhabitants gathers here because of its location and accessibility, especially in summer. The surroundings of the lake are an ideal spot for trips, sports, picnics, sitting in the beer garden, swimming and relaxing.
We can date the beginnings of the lake back to 1959, when the Nuremberg City Council decided to create it. And in 1981 a waterwork was completed and it was named after Nuremberg`s part of the town called Wöhrd. 2600 meters long, over 100 meters wide and with a total area of 52 hectares, this lake has also practical use as a holding tank and flood protection.
